Irrigation Systems
The dominant form of irrigation system employed in the Murray Dairy region is border check irrigation. Farms in the region have made significant investment to improve the efficiency of their board check irrigation systems through:
- Whole farm planning
- Laser grading
- Recycle systems
- Automation
- Irrigation Systems
- Automatic Irrigation Outlet
A well-managed and designed border check irrigation system on the majority of the soil types in the region is an efficient way to apply the water to land.
To improve water use efficiency on lighter soils and in undulating areas many farms are moving to sprinkler irrigation with centre pivot irrigators being the most common. Other pressurised systems such as linear move irrigators and pipe and riser systems are also used in the region.
Further research into alternative irrigation systems such as sub surface drip is being conducted in the region as the industry continues to look to improve its water use efficiency.
