Funding

Murray Dairy receives funding from Dairy Australia proportional to milk production from the region.

Dairy farmers milk is levied at 0.315 cents per litre or $3,150 for every million litres of milk produced. The levy funds a range of services including research, development, extension and the promotion and protection of the dairy industry’s interests within Australia and internationally.

From the total Dairy Australia budget, including levy funds, an allocation is made to cover the operations of the 8 Regional Development Programs (RDPs) around Australia. In 2008-09, the total Dairy Australia funds budgeted for all the RDPs was $3.28 million.

This funding is apportioned between the 8 RDP regions approximately based on the proportion of milk produced in that region (on a rolling 3 year average basis).

Murray Dairy received $775,900 direct funding from Dairy Australia in 2008-09.
