Dairy For Tomorrow In A Changing Climate

Are you the future of the Australian Dairy Industry? 

Murray Dairy is looking for Australia’s best young representatives from the dairy sector to participate in the first stage of the “Dairy for the Future in a Changing Environment” workshop. 

This unique and exciting three day workshop provides an opportunity for 15 people aged between 18 and 30 years of age working in the dairy industry to develop personal, professional and leadership qualities with a focus on the Federal Government Carbon Policy and the effects it will have on the dairy industry. 

Successful candidates will  attend a three day all expenses paid (including travel)workshop in Melbourne from the 27th to 29th February 2012, to meet and network with industry leaders, discuss the effects of the Carbon Policy on the industry while developing your personal skills to be one of the next generation of leaders. 

“One of the challenges for the many young people to develop skills is the financial capacity to attend such workshops as this” Murray Dairy CEO Sarah Parker said. “The funding for this project provided by Dairy Australia, Murray Dairy and the Australian Government will allow 15 young people from around Australia to gain skills and knowledge at a national level”.  

The second stage of the program will involve four participants selected from stage one travelling to Canberra for further personal development and access to the national leaders and policy developers.   

The workshop topics include Industry organisations and how they service the dairy sector, policy development and effecting change, what effects does the carbon policy have on the dairy industry, the media. Leaders of the respective organisations will be speaking at the workshop including Australian Dairy Industry Council (ADIC), Dairy Australia (DA), United dairy farmers of Victoria (UDV) and the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF). Leading consultants and DPI-Victoria will facilitate sessions on communication, media and forum discussion. 

Federal Government representatives will present the background to the Carbon Policy and the Carbon farming Initiative.The workshop program incorporates a a learning framework supported by the National Centre for Dairy Education (NCDEA) that will qualify participants for a statement of attainment of one unit in Lead and Manage Community or Industry Organisations. 

The program offers a balance with opportunities to socialise and network with fellow participants, industry leaders and guest speakers.The workshop is supported by funding from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under Australia’s Farming Future.
